1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 using the grey wire. The ECU uses this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jumpy chain link in the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit tricky since there are two pins for the connector and they have different functions but the best method of testing it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when the sensor is operating at its maximum. Check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a massive decrease in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, 3 were drenched with gazoline the 4th one was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump out. The fourth one remains closed. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car can start if the G28 is unplugged and is running fine when it is plugged in, but still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is 0.

I don't know what to do. I think I've all other possibilities out. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a junkyard or in a local parts store. 4. ECU
